How we handle your data on UAE Price Index

At UAE Price Index (https://uaepriceindex.com), we take your privacy seriously. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

Summary

  • We use Plausible Analytics (cookie-free, privacy-friendly) and Microsoft Clarity (session recording and heatmaps) to understand how visitors use our site.
  • Our calculators (mortgage, rental yield, price comparator) run entirely in your browser. No data you enter is sent to our servers or stored anywhere.
  • We offer an optional newsletter subscription that collects your email address. We do not create user accounts.
  • We use localStorage to remember your star ratings on pages. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers for identification purposes.
  • Microsoft Clarity may set cookies and use localStorage for session tracking. Plausible does not use cookies.

Analytics — Plausible

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. Plausible is a lightweight, privacy-friendly analytics tool that:

  • Does not use cookies
  • Does not collect personal data or personally identifiable information (PII)
  • Does not track visitors across websites
  • Is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR without requiring cookie consent banners
  • Collects only aggregate, anonymised usage data such as page views, referral sources, browser type, and country of origin

You cannot be identified through Plausible analytics data, and we cannot link any Plausible data to an individual visitor.

Analytics — Microsoft Clarity

We also use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with our pages. Clarity provides:

  • Session recordings — anonymised replays of how visitors scroll, click, and navigate
  • Heatmaps — aggregate visualisations of where visitors click and how far they scroll

Clarity may collect the following data:

  • Pages visited, time on page, and navigation patterns
  • Mouse movements, clicks, and scroll behaviour
  • Browser type, screen size, operating system, and device type
  • Country and general location (not precise geolocation)
  • Anonymised session identifiers via cookies and localStorage

Clarity automatically masks sensitive input fields (such as email and password fields) in session recordings. We use Clarity solely to improve the user experience on our site, not for advertising or profiling. For more information, see Microsoft Clarity's privacy disclosure.

Newsletter Subscription

We offer an optional email newsletter with GCC property market updates. If you choose to subscribe:

  • We collect your email address, which is stored securely in our database (hosted on Supabase)
  • Your email is used solely to send you our newsletter — we do not sell, share, or rent your email address to third parties
  • You can unsubscribe at any time by contacting us through our About page

Star Ratings

Some pages feature a star rating widget. When you submit a rating:

  • Your rating is saved anonymously in our database — no personal data is attached to it
  • A flag is stored in your browser's localStorage to remember that you already rated the page, preventing duplicate submissions
  • This localStorage data stays on your device and can be cleared through your browser settings

Calculator Tools

Our property analysis tools -- the Mortgage Calculator, Rental Yield Calculator, and Price per sqm Comparator -- are built as client-side applications. This means:

  • All calculations are performed in your browser using JavaScript
  • No data you enter into any calculator is transmitted to our servers
  • No data you enter is stored, logged, or accessible to us
  • Your inputs are lost when you close or refresh the page

We cannot see what numbers you enter, what scenarios you model, or what results you receive. Your financial calculations are completely private.

Cookies and Local Storage

UAE Price Index itself does not set first-party tracking cookies. However:

  • Microsoft Clarity may set cookies (such as _clck and _clsk) and use localStorage to identify sessions and measure performance. These are first-party cookies set by the Clarity script.
  • Plausible Analytics does not use cookies of any kind.
  • Our star rating feature uses localStorage to remember your rating — this is not a cookie and contains no personal information.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies for ad targeting.

Third-Party Links

Our site contains links to external websites, including government bodies, real estate portals, and industry organisations. We link to these sites for informational purposes. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before interacting with them.

Clicking an external link may transmit your referral information to the destination website (this is standard browser behaviour). We have no control over how external websites handle this information.

Data Retention

Plausible Analytics retains aggregated, anonymised usage data indefinitely, but this data cannot be linked to any individual. Microsoft Clarity retains session data for up to 30 days. Newsletter subscriber email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Anonymous star ratings are retained indefinitely.

Children's Privacy

Our site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your Rights

If you have subscribed to our newsletter, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your email address at any time by contacting us through our About page.

For all other data (analytics, ratings), the information is either anonymised or stored only on your own device, so standard data subject rights (access, rectification, deletion, portability) do not apply in the usual sense.
